The Ties That Bind Us
Screen Print on Somerset paper

This print is part of a series I made inspired by my Grandma's sewing box, which I inherited. The saving of fragments of sewing materials made me think about how thrifty people used to be and how much we throw away now. These small pieces of ephemera speak of an attitude that we have lost, along with valuing even small pieces of everyday life.
Vintage sewing reels, needle guages and old buttons all reminded me of my grandma and also made me think of the sewing and knitting skills I learned from my own mother, who learnt them from her. This tradition of making and mending has been handed down to me and is something I want to celebrate in this collection of prints.
