Screen Print on Somerset paper
76cm x 28cm
I have always been intrigued by the metal detectorists who are often to be seen scouring the beach outside my house. I decided to make a series of prints based on the 'treasure' that can be found on the beach. I didn't find anything of real value, but I found lots of items which shed light on what we value, what we lose or throw away. When categorised together they made an interesting document of life on the beach.
This piece started off with a pair of sunglasses I found lost outside our house. I then began to spot more pairs which had been left or lost and not reclaimed. I decided to make a print based on them. There was something about the fact they seemed so disposable that I found interesting and I wanted to re-elevate them to something beautiful and valued.
Please note that this is a handmade print and there may be slight variations in the edition. Each piece is unique!
