The Wedding Party
Screen Print on Somerset paper
38cm x 76cm
A few years ago I visited India and fell in love with the colours, patterns, chaos and charm of the place. I loved the quiet temples, the busy markets, the painted havellis and decorated palaces. I made a lot of paintings and prints from my research when I returned, and am still using some of the information I gathered!
This print is based on a house in Udaipur. In that part of India it is customary to paint the house of a person getting married; different areas have different imagery, and in Udaipur many of the houses are painted with elephants and other animals processing to the wedding. I loved the colours and decaying wall surfaces, and the fact that there is an implied human presence, even though the person getting married is not actually depicted.
Please note that this is a handmade print and there may be slight variations in the edition. Each piece is unique!
