Sea Fragments, Delft Blue
Screen Print on Somerset paper
57cm x 38cm
I have always been intrigued by the metal detectorists who are often to be seen scouring the beach outside my house. I decided to make a series of prints based on the 'treasure' that can be found on the beach. I didn't find anything of real value, but I found lots of items which shed light on what we value, what we lose or throw away. When categorised together they made an interesting document of life on the beach.
This piece was inspired by some of the many blue and white pottery fragments which I have found over the years. I especially like the horse and rider fragment in the top right - this was found by my son when he was very little, and it is obviously very old. It is a beautiful piece, possibly from a tureen, and I love that it provides an intriguing glimpse into the past.
Please note that this is a handmade print and there may be slight variations in the edition. Each piece is unique!
